July 4th marked the Homestead/Herrington annual Golf Cart Parade, and a grand time was had by all.  The parade was escorted through the neighborhood by Garrard County Emergency Management Director Wanda Shelton, a familiar face who has led our parade several times before.  We were privileged to have her join us again this year.  Thank you, Officer Shelton!

There was a 3-way tie for Best-Decorated Cart, so they tossed the dice to determine the winners, and here's the final outcome based only on a throw of the dice!  FIRST: Paul and Karen Wilson in their VW bus.  SECOND:  Mike and Nancy's golf cart decorated by their grandchildren visiting from Wyoming.  (Mike writes, “Daughter Allison and grandkids Natalie and Austin decorated our cart and drove it in the parade along with dad Cole and grandkids Blake and Tanner.”) THIRD: Chuck and Lynn Poneleit with the giant Happy Fourth of July cake on top of the cart.   All the vehicles were special!

The brunch following the parade was a huge success with 45+ in attendance. Great food, great fellowship!!  “Make new friends and keep the old!” We were so pleased that our newest homeowners Art and Sheila Lambrecht and several of their local family members (and grandson from Washington State) decorated their vehicle and joined the parade and brunch.  Welcome to Homestead!

Special thanks to our neighbor Ron Bayes, who has been the official photographer for years.  Watch for an article and parade photos in the Garrard Central Record newspaper.

Now it’s time to start thinking about decorations for next year!
